The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can possibly cause extensive water damage if it’s not maintained properly. Water can leak inside your home if the drain becomes clogged, the coils freeze or if the pipes are not connected properly. Here’s a few tips on how to prevent HVAC water damages:
- Change filters regularly: You need to change filters at least once a month to help prevent the unit from over stimulating, which can cause freezing and then defrosting on the coils, leading to a water damage.
- Maintain the condensation drain line:
- When your AC unit is running, check the condensation line openingto make sure you see to it that the water is flowing to the drain.
- If the drain line is clogged attach a wet/dry vacuum to the drain line and suck whatever is clogging it out.
- Also check that the pipe is positioned correctly as it might be knocked out of place.
- Install a condensation pump that helps to pump the excess water into the proper drain.
- Have your HVAC system inspected professionally: Hiring a professional is your best option to making sure your HVAC system is running smoothly and to prevent a water damage from happening.
